Affairs Save Marriages and Cheating is on the Rise!

The UK’s largest married dating site IllicitEncounters.com will this month reach a milestone of 1 million members, that’s over 5% of the married population (or one person in every 10 couples).

The website has contacted some of the original members that joined the site when it first launched 11 years ago.

The site polled 200 of the 482 people still using the site since joining in the first year 2003-2004. The study shows that in the 11 years since joining, 80% of the customers are still married to the same person.

91% of those polled said that they would recommend having an affair and two thirds of those polled said that the affair had had a positive effect on their marriage. The average number of affairs had over this period of time is 5 affairs and the average length of the affair is 8 months.

It is really interesting that so many original members are still using the site, and to have had on average 5 affairs means that people are actively seeking to date outside of their marriage. 91% of affair seekers would recommend having an affair, challenging the notion that people regret having an affair – quite the opposite actually!

IllicitEncounters.com was conceived in 2003 by entrepreneur Steven Lines, becoming the first extra-marital dating site in the UK. In the first year almost 14,000 people signed up to the website. 11 years on, sign ups to the site have not lost momentum with over 150,000 Britons joining in the last 12 months alone suggesting that adultery is very much on the rise.

Extra-marital dating sites offer an easier way to find and sustain a relationship. More people than ever are choosing to find love online and with IllicitEncounters.com it is no different.

Simon Francis CEO of IllicitEncounters.com said “We are delighted at the outcome of our 11th year in the dating game; we just couldn’t be more excited about the present. Monogamy is just not for everyone, and we want to deliver the best and most discrete platform for like-minded individuals to communicate with each other. The fact that after all these years we still have some of our original members using the site – that is a true testament to what we are doing and 80% of those are still married to their primary partner, a great indication that IE has kept many marriages together”

Spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Claire Page said “The modern man and woman simply need more in a world that is constantly developing and evolving. Online dating has revolutionized the way in which affair seekers meet. In the past an affair could seriously damage a relationship, however with everything becoming digitalised, infidelity can very much be a private affair between lovers and in some cases has even saved marriages. Many people have come back to tell us their encounter has rekindled their primary relationship – with one in three having said an affair has had a positive impact on their marriage.

On the flip-side, those involved in very toxic relationships with their spouse have even been able to find love on the site, with success stories often involving marriages between two affair seekers – the site really does cater to every need. Affairs in relationships are imminent; it is becoming ordinary for couples to seek more than one relationship to fulfill them, not a rarity.”
