Think that your partner’s dress sense doesn’t matter? Think again. IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating website for married people and the leading authority on infidelity, can reveal that your partner’s appearance could indicate that they’re having an affair.

The site surveyed 300 married men and 300 married women, asking them how their appearance differed when they met with mistress/histress, and it turns out that both men and women make more of an effort on dates with their secret lover than with their own partners.

26% of women always wear red lipstick when they’re meeting their secret tryst, while 17% wear suspender belts. 15% don’t leave the house without a pair of heels, while 10% go as far as getting a new hairdo. The emphasis on looking your best doesn’t stop there, as as many as 5% buy an entirely new outfit.

Interestingly, an overwhelming 71% of married women said that they spend more money to prepare for dates with their secret lover than they do with their existing partner.

When it comes to men, 21% of men said that they always wear cologne when they meet their mistress, while 18% always shave or trim their facial hair. A further 14% banked on a pair of brogue shoes just to impress their mistress, while 10% always lathered their hair with product.

A lesser but still significant percentage of men (31) stated that they spend more money to prepare for dates with their secret lover than they do with their wife.

The site’s spokesperson, Christian Grant, explains:

“Needless to say, an affair isn’t like a monogamous relationship. Adulterers see each other far less frequently, so when they do, they want to look their absolute best. Items that exude sexiness, class and luxury top the charts, with adulterers looking to dress to impress.

“So, if your partner is spending an alarming sum of money on a brand new wardrobe, and you’re wondering why they never make the same level of effort when they go out with you, you may have your answer.”
