Friends reunion has sparked some unanswered questions from the series, such as, is it really cheating when you’re on a break?

1000 men and women split equally, took part in the survey conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people. The poll uncovers the questions we’ve all wanted answers to from scandalous moments in Friends. It turns out men and women are very divided on the ins and outs, yes and no’s of dating and cheating! Friends gave us 10 brilliant seasons of comedy gold. With so much humour injected into each episode, we do sometimes forget some pretty heavy real-life situations were depicted in the story line, weird and wonderful events that took place which only strengthened the Friends bond. We’ve aimed to uncover some of the home truths on some of the issues displayed in the series.

Sex and relationships expert for IllicitEncounters.com, Jessica Leoni has compiled and commented on the results below:

The One With The Butt
Season 1, Episode 6

Chandler has a brief affair with married woman Aurora – who coincidentally already has one other boyfriend and would like to add another to the list. At first Chandler feels like he’s hit the jackpot  – but pretty quickly his feelings get in the way and he gets jealous and realises he wants monogamy.

We asked our members:
Is it possible to have an open relationship without jealousy?
19% of Women said Yes
14% of Men said Yes

It seems that both men and women agree that there’s no chance you can let your partner date other people and not get jealous, it must be down to human nature.

The One with the Morning After
Season 3, Episode 16
Ross sleeps with Chloe from the xerox shop after a fight with Rachel sparking the ubiquitous quote of the season ‘We were on a break!’

We asked our members:
Does it count as cheating when you’re on a break?
87% of Women said Yes
20% of Men said Yes

Wow the difference in opinion on this much sought after question is astonishing! Women give an almost unanimous yes, compared to a small fraction of men – although let’s be honest, men never admit that what they’re doing is cheating – do they?

The One With Ross’ Thing
Season 3, Episode 23
Phoebe starts playing the field by dating two men at the same time, Vince the fireman and kindergarten teacher Jason. The duo find out they’re being played when they both turn up to listen to Phoebe play guitar at Central Perk.

We asked our members:
Should you play the field before you choose?
72% of Women said Yes
98% of Men said Yes

Women tend to be a bit more loyal than men, so it’s unsurprising that less women think you should play the field. Of course 98% of men say go for it – it’s every man’s dream to have your cake and eat it.

The One with Chandler in a Box
Season 4, Episode 8
Chandler ends up locking himself purposefully in a wooden crate for 6 hours as a three-fold way of apologising to Joey for getting with his girlfriend. Chandler says ‘The meaning of the box is threefold. One, it gives me the time to think about what I did. Two, it proves how much I care about my friendship with Joey. And three, it hurts!’

We asked our members:
Is it ever OK to get together with your best friend’s partner?
30% of Women said Yes
71% of Men said Yes

Girl code totally overrules boy code here – an astounding number of men think it’s ok to get with a pals missus!

The One With All The Haste
Season 4, Episode 19
Ross proposes to Emily, his girlfriend of only 6 weeks, to convince her to move to New York and not go back to London.

We asked our members:
Is a relationship doomed if you marry too quickly?
23% of women said Yes
65% of men said Yes

I guess it’s every girl’s dream to be the bride, we’re clearly much more eager to get married then men, apart from Ross obviously – for whom weddings (and divorces) are a competitive sport.

The One With Ross’ Wedding
Season 4, Episode 24
So much happens in this episode, what with Ross saying Rachel’s name instead of fiance’s Emily at the altar causing utter havoc. This episode was also the first time Monica and Chandler get together ‘in London!’ after being just friends for so many years.

We asked our members:
Can friends-with-benefits ever really turn into a real relationship?
52% of Women said Yes
57% of Men said Yes

More than half of those polled agreed that FWB can transpire into a real relationship – not bad odds.

The One with the Proposal
Season Six, Episode 25
Monica proposes to Chandler – back when women proposing was seen as a tad unconventional.

We asked our members:
Should women propose to men?
10% of Women said Yes
17% of Men said Yes

Interestingly more men than women think it’s OK for a woman to propose – although the responses still suggest that men traditionally proposing is more acceptable to the public.

The One After Joey And Rachel Kiss
Season 10, Episode 1
Joey and his girlfriend Charlie break up in Barbados. Following this, Ross and Charlie get together and Ross confesses his feelings to Joey on the plane home – admitting he and Charlie have kissed. Unbeknownst to Ross – Joey and Rachel have been are also fooling around behind his back and Joey does not reciprocate a confession to Ross on the plane. Instead, Ross finds out by walking in on them kissing – cultivating one of the next most known quotes from the series when Ross tells them ‘I’m fine!’

We asked our members:
Can you truly be ‘fine’ with one of your friends dating your ex?
13% of Women said Yes
16% of Men said Yes

The public have spoken, and it’s a pretty clear no – there is no way you can feel fine about one of your friends dating your ex.

Mayday – Cheat Alert: Rapid Surge in Adultery!

* 36% increase in affair seekers in the first half of May  – more love rats looking for an affair than any other time of the year thus far
* Bored housewives make up 63% of registration surge
* Chaos on cheating website on the 17th of May as staff pull extra shifts to cope with new registrations
* Warm weather in June and restrictions easing likely to take the numbers even higher, with married-dating website IllicitEncounters.com forecasting a 72% increase in cheating by the summer

Cheating explosion in May as nationwide restrictions are easing.

This is the first time in 17 years that May has seen a dramatic spike in cheats flocking to married dating site IllicitEncounters.com.

36% surge in overall sign ups in the first half of May. Bored housewives account for 63% of the spike compared with 37% men. Perhaps women have been more careful during the pandemic and think now is the time to throw caution to the wind.

The 17th of May saw the biggest increase in activity as the affairs site had to pull staff to work extra shifts in order to cope with new registrations.

May is traditionally a slower month for cheats seeking affairs, this increase is rather unusual. Normally adultery peaks in January, straight after Christmas as fed up spouses add ‘an affair’ to their new year’s resolutions. Another big spike is traditionally seen in July as the weather gets hotter and people fancy getting steamy with a secret lover.

In a survey of 800 new members, 82% claimed that being cooped up with their partner during the pandemic left them feeling suffocated and in need of time apart. Out of the sample 46% have had an affair before, whilst 54% had never been unfaithful before.

Lewis, 46, London, a member on IllicitEncounters.com said ‘I’m in a sexless marriage. You kind of accept that chemistry eventually dies. I got by with the occasional fling, I even had a solid affair with a work colleague for a while. I’ve been faithful throughout the pandemic though – biding my time until it’s safe. I didn’t want to start meeting women when you could only go for a walk in the park. It’s not just sex I’ve missed it’s the thrill of the chase. I’m happy it’s possible again. Besides, it’s much easier to come up with excuses to meet up now than it was before the rules were relaxed. There’s only so long you can ‘walk the dog’ without raising suspicions.’

Yvonne, 50, Glasgow, another member on the site, said ‘My husband and I have an arrangement where we allow each other to sleep with other people. It’s a turn on to talk about it after. Of course, we keep it under wraps from our friends, it might scare them off. I’ve tried and failed to meet someone to have an affair with since I’ve been vaccinated, but recently I’ve been inundated with proposals. Looks like the tide is turning.’

Jessica Leoni, spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com, said ‘I suspect bookings are through the roof with day use hotels right now. People have been staring at the same four corners of their houses for far too long now and are quite frankly sick of seeing their spouse day in day out, no wonder there’s a huge demand for affairs!

Couples across the country are gasping for the novelty and excitement an illicit encounter can provide. Gosh, I can barely believe I’m saying this, but now that sex is legal with people outside of our own household again – we can expect affair cases to continue to rise.’

Has your partner joined the gym recently? They could be cheating on you!

* ‘I’m going to the gym’ – is the number one excuse loverats are using right now to cheat on their spouse!

* Second top excuse for men lately is going to the ‘pub with a friend’ and for women it’s going for a ‘walk’

* 73% of adulterers believe their affair has helped them lose weight

* 89% of adulterers found it hard to come up with excuses to cheat during national lockdowns

* Study conducted by IllicitEncounters.com, the UK’s leading dating site for married people

Could your partner be pumping more than just iron? Adulterers pretend they are going to the gym so that they can enjoy secret affairs!

According to new research released today by IllicitEncounters, the UK’s leading married dating site, the number one alibi for cheating right now is going to the gym.

800 members of the site, split equally by male and female respondents, were surveyed on their recent affair exploits. The survey found the top go-to excuses adulterers have been using to cheat in the last month now lockdown restrictions are easing.

In the last month 52% of men and 38% of women have used the gym as an excuse to cheat on their spouse.

Most gym fanatics got their fitness fix doing home workouts during lockdowns however cheats felt the burn with gyms closed as it ruined their affair alibis. Now that gyms are open it’s no surprise that loverats choose ‘I’m going to the gym’ as the number one excuse to cheat.

And for those who suspect that spouses are suspicious when their partners aren’t getting any slimmer from exercising, 73% of affair seekers believe cheating has actually helped them lose weight! Making it the perfect cover up.

Second top excuse for men is ‘pub with a friend’ (15%) followed by a ‘walk’ in third place (13%) and ‘working late’ (12%) in fourth. Fifth most popular excuse is ‘golf’ (4%).

Second top excuse for women is going for a ‘walk’ (27%), followed by ‘coffee with a friend’ in third place (20%) and going to an ‘outdoor exercise class’ in fourth (5%). Fifth most popular excuse for women is ‘sunbathing’ (3%) – although it is expected this excuse will garner more momentum as the weather gets hotter.

89% of those polled agreed that national lockdown restrictions made it difficult for them to come up with excuses to cheat.

Georgia, 42, London, said ‘I’m in a less than satisfying marriage and I have had affairs in the past. I lost my confidence during the pandemic and put on quite a bit of weight.

As soon as my local gym opened I joined. It’s a great excuse to have an affair. My husband never questions me. He thinks it’s great I want to lose weight. What’s brilliant is I’ve lost 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks and I’d go as far as saying that it’s all down to the affair, maybe I’ll cancel my gym membership.’

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationship expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said “Sexercise over exercise? It’s just a different type of workout! Adulterers can don their activewear, slip outside the house, and their spouse is none the wiser.

It’s interesting to note men chose going to the pub as an excuse, whereas women opted for going for a coffee – some gender biases here over stereotypical male vs female behaviours. It seems it’s more believable that a man may want to venture to the pub for a pint, and women think it’s a more plausible excuse to use a coffee meet up as an alibi.

Lots of men and women use going for a ‘walk’ as an excuse – perhaps as this has been the easiest excuse to continue using since all the lockdown restrictions.

Golf featured as a male only alibi, although I do wonder how many men forget to pick up the golf clubs when they leave the house.

Sunbathing also only seems to feature as an excuse for women. If your husband tells you he wants to go sunbathing, it’s safe to say he’s probably telling the truth.”

Top Excuses Men

Gym 52%

Pub with a friend 15%

Walk 13%

Working late 12%

Golf 4%

Other 4%

Top Excuses Women

Gym 38%

Walk 27%

Coffee with a friend 20%

Other 7%

Outdoor exercise class 5%

Sunbathing 3%

Has an affair helped you lose weight?
