Women reveal the sexiest male professions

The study asked over 1,500 female members of the UK’s largest married dating website what they thought the sexiest profession was for a partner and why. The top result was revealed to be a musician or artist with 32% of the votes, a profession that embodies passion and creativity, which is in stark contrast to the second highest (24%), which was men who work in the financial service sector, the study describing them as ambitious, confident and intelligent.

According to the study, the least attractive profession was a professional footballer; women viewed them as over-confident, vain, self-absorbed and as having a bad reputation.

IllicitEncounters.com spokesperson Rosie Freeman-Jones commented: “Men think confidence is sexy, what they don’t realise is over-confidence can be incredibly off-putting. Women who are looking for extra-marital excitement are often looking for a man who is as attractive on the inside as they are on the outside. They want some one they can have an emotional as well as physical connection with. It appears that whilst footballers may be attractive on the pitch, off the pitch most women feel they would have little or nothing in common with them. So despite their fame and fortune, most women find their arrogance, and reputation as a real turn off.”

Other professions that made the ‘hot’ list include teachers, doctors and writers/journalists. Teachers were described as inspiring, caring and interesting whilst doctors where seen to be professional, motivated and protective.

Joanne, 39, from London, who uses IllicitEncounters.com to meet married men commented “When I am looking for a potential date I am looking for someone who can provide stimulating conversation, who has intelligence, passion and can be creative, I want a man who is motivated. I tend to avoid the vain egotistical types who are more obsessed with themselves and how they look, nothing is more off-putting than a guy who is full of himself.”

Women also found writers/journalists attractive, describing them as creative, artistic and informed. So, despite not earning a footballers wage they along with accountants, teachers and doctors could be next to attract WAG’s.

The Snow may have thawed but some relationships are still frosty

The recent snow fall has led to an influx in new members signing up to look for extra-marital relationships, with the UK’s leading married dating site IllicitEncounters.com reporting a huge spike in traffic and record new signups over the past week.

But what is the reason for the sudden increase in new members, is it the cold weather, the long dark nights or even the post holiday blues? Research conducted by IllicitEncounters.com has revealed that the most common reasons that men stray from their partners are complacency and boredom.

The research showed that men signing up were mostly looking for an escape from their every day life, with the second most common response being “I am looking for more adventurous sex”.

Senior lecturer in psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University Dr David Holmes, who has researched relationships and infidelity. Stated:

“Women look for a better relationship but men look for better sex, a mix that often drops the man into choppy waters. Men often become bored with functional workaholic relationships that are seen as devoid of passion, stimulation and intrigue. In relationships the grass is always greener elsewhere. The excitement of a secret rendezvous and sexual adventures with someone different could act as a fulfilling stimulant. However, most affairs go undetected as they never escalate or develop into competing relationships”

The study also examined what men looked for in a new lovers’ personality. The majority responded that they are after a woman who is sexually confident, surprisingly almost twice the number who were looking to meet a partner with the same interests and values as themselves.

Dr Holmes added: “Couples tend to undervalue sex in their relationship and for some it becomes a chore–getting in the way of more important things. Too many marriages are based on convenience, or only being together for the kids. This is not just fertile ground for affairs but almost certainly will result in one if either partner is a passionate person. Couples should take the need for good passionate sex as the focal expression of a relationship more seriously.’

A spokesperson for IllicitEncounters.com Rosie Freeman-Jones commented: “The snow has certainly has had an effect on people joining the site. Members have told me that being snowed in has left them longing for excitement and an escape from their unsatisfying relationship and this is only heightened by the January blues. When you have been married for a period of time the mystery and intrigue that played a big part in your initial attraction can fade and leave both men and women craving something more.

It is clear from looking at all our members’ profiles that they are first and foremost looking for some excitement and and see an affair as an injection of fun into their mundane routines.”

Additionally when both male and female members were asked “What type of look did they want from a new lover?” The most popular choice was someone more exciting and exotic than their current partner.

Essex boom in online extra-marital encounters as snow falls

Since last Tuesday over 25% of signups on the extra-marital dating site IllicitEncounters.com have been by those living in Essex, with the majority being women.

The UK’s largest extra-marital dating site, IllicitEncounters.com, first noticed the overall increase in daily signups last Saturday, when the cold weather and snow initially hit Scotland and the pennines, a trend that continued on Sunday when another flurry of memberships were created by people based in Newcastle and Leeds.

However, since the snow has blanketed the entire country the trend has shifted and, instead of the majority of signups coming from the north, the majority of activity has been seen in the east.

The top ten counties that had the most activity were the following:

Essex – 26%

Somerset – 13%

Kent – 10%

Shropshire – 9%

Durham – 8%

Pembrokeshire – 6%

Nottinghamshire – 5%

Aberdeenshire – 4.5%

Greater London – 4%

Cheshire – 3%

A spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, Vanessa Philips, says, “We’re surprised by these statistics as previous figures have shown the south west being the ones most likely to stray when the weather turns for the worse. A couple of years ago it was Devon at the top of this table.”

In the past week the site has seen an increase of over 5,000 signups. In January 2010 a similar pattern emerged with a record number of signups reported. Many new applicants joined from Hampshire, Berkshire, and West Country, with more than 900 new members joining from Dorset, Devon and Cornwall in just three days.

“One of the biggest surprises this year was that in many counties the majority of signups have come from women. This could possibly be due to them having a bit of winter blues and are feeling the come down after the hype of Christmas and New Year.

We’ve also noticed this time round that the average length of time people are spending on the site has increased. They’re not just checking their mail and logging out, they are becoming more involved with other members through online chat and site activities.”

Adulterous behaviour snowballs as snow falls across the UK

Tracking the number of new members since the change in weather, a spokesperson for Illicit Encounters, Vanessa Philips, says, “We’ve found that there’s a strong correlation between where the snow falls and the increase in signups, suggesting many join the site when they are forced to work from home due to being trapped in by the snow. Perhaps their preference is to sign up away from the prying eyes of colleagues, or maybe they look to join to escape family frustrations.”

Black Monday (the first working Monday of the new year) is the most popular day of the year for marriage separations and calls to divorce lawyers, but in times of economic uncertainty it seems more people are deciding to stay in unfulfilling marriages and having an affair to fill the void.

The dating website saw a 75% increase in daily new member sign-ups in the period running up to and including the 7^th January and the trend is set to continue throughout the month as both women and men look for a new partner outside of their relationship.

Studies have shown that more couples argue in January than during any other month, with many trying to deal with the stresses of returning to work, over spending, eating and drinking over the holiday period and money being stretched tighter and tighter by New Year price rises. This leads to an inevitable build up of irritability and tempers are frayed. Add to this the financial implications of getting a divorce and the prospect of having an affair not only starts to look appealing, it becomes a financially viable option.

Richard Smith a researcher for NotAtWork.co.uk said: “This is also a time when people are most likely to start a work-place romance, however I would have to advise them to think twice as a whopping 80% of employers have admitted that they would hesitate to promote a member of staff who had had an interoffice relationship.”
